Normally at this time of year, even though it might still feel like winter here in Vancouver, its time to remove your studded tires. But this year, things are a little different because of the coronavirus.
Of course, you can remove them any time, but you wont be penalized for keeping them on longer this year. Thats because the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has extended the deadline to remove studded tires to April 30.
In light of the ongoing effort to practice social distancing, to reduce the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), the WSDOT decided to extend the deadline, as many shops are sending employees home to avoid exposing anyone to the virus. The law allows the department to extend the deadline when circumstances call for it.
Winter Tire Removal Deadline
Normally, the last day you can have studded tires on your vehicle in Washington is March 31. Washington state law allows you to use studded tires starting November 1. But if you use your tires after March 31 (or before Nov. 1), you could receive a ticket if a law enforcement officer decides to issue one. Avoid the Hassle
We know some car owners decide to switch out their own tires every spring and fall. But changing your tires twice every year can be a pain for a lot of people. So why not get your tires with Hoesly Eco Automotive and well switch them out for you. You dont have to worry about getting dirty or doing any heavy lifting. Plus, our tools make the job much easier. Most people dont have the high-powered wrenches necessary to do the job with ease.
Dont Do Extra Damage
Your vehicles snow tires are especially designed to give you better traction in wet and slippery conditions. So you dont want to keep them on longer than you have to. If you want them to stay in top condition for several winter seasons to come, then removing them in the spring is the way to go.
And if you have studded snow tires, then you especially dont want to keep them on longer than necessary. Driving on dry pavement will wear down the studs faster, which means youll have to replace them sooner. And studded tires are not cheap. Studded tires are also very hard on the pavement, which is why the state requires you to remove studded tires on March 31.
