Reasons Your Check Engine Light Comes On Vancouver Auto Repair
What could be worse than when youre driving along without a care in the world, but suddenly without warning the check engine light comes on? Its never a good feeling when that light on your dashboard shows up. For some people it even causes panic or stress. After all, the last thing you want to have to worry about is something wrong with your engine.
The good news is, in most cases, that little light does not indicate there is something seriously wrong. In fact, most of the time, it is something quite simple that has triggered the check engine light to appear. So, if your check engine light suddenly comes on while youre driving, dont panic.
Just bring your vehicle into Hoesly Eco Automotive and let us check it out. And if youre driving somewhere far from home, you can still go to just about any auto parts store to get a reading and determine whats causing the sensor to go off. What you dont want to do is ignore the issue. It wont go away by itself, but it could get worse if left unattended.
Bad Catalytic Converter
The catalytic converter converts carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide. If it doesnt function properly your cars emissions will suffer, as will your engines performance. This can be one of the more costly repairs, but if it has gone bad, then you will have to replace your catalytic converter.
Faulty Oxygen Sensor
Your vehicles exhaust system carries oxygen. The oxygen sensors job is to make sure you have the right amount in the system. If the oxygen sensor goes bad it can affect your engines performance and over time wear it down. This is one of the most common causes of the check engine light coming on. Fortunately, its an easy fix and relatively inexpensive.
Old Spark Plugs
If your spark plugs dont fire right this can cause the check engine light to appear. Spark plugs get old and quit working or sometimes they are faulty and wear out sooner than expected. Either way, replacing them can take care of the check engine light.
Loose Gas Cap
Believe it or not, a bad or loose gas cap can actually trigger the check engine light to turn on. If the gas cap no longer has a solid seal, whether its old or simply loose, the vapors from the gas tank can escape, which triggers the check engine sensor to come on. So, the simple fix is to check your gas cap. If its not correctly tightened or set in place, then make the adjustment. If the cap is no longer sealing properly, then replace it.
