Getting Your Car Ready For Back To School A Vancouver Auto Repair

Getting Your Car Ready for Back to School Vancouver Auto Repair

School is finally back in session in Southwest Washington and kids are returning to the classroom. It takes a lot for parents and kids to get ready for a new school year. New clothes, backpacks, shoes, and of course supplies. Of course, for those parents with older kids, getting your son or daughters vehicle ready for school is also important, especially if theyre headed off to college. The problem is most people are worrying about all those other things so they forget to pay attention to vehicle maintenance. But that could be a mistake.

Vehicle Maintenance Checklist

If you havent given your vehicle a good tune-up lately, then now is a good time to get into your trusted Vancouver auto repair shop. If you dont have time to get into the shop right away you can do a few things yourself to make sure your car, truck, SUV, or crossover is in good working order. Here are a few important items that should be on your checklist.

Tires and brakes start where the rubber meets the road. Your tires should have plenty of tread life. And if they dont, then get some new ones. If you notice any uneven wear-patterns then get your vehicle to a shop right away. You could have alignment or balance issues. In addition, if you find any nails or screws then bring your car in and well see if you need a flat repair. You should also check your brake pads and to be sure they have enough life. If you hear screeching or notice any vibrating while you drive or brake, it could be worn out brake pads and/or rotors. If so, then its time for a new set of brakes.

Lights and wipers check your headlights, taillights and blinkers to make sure theyre all working right. If any bulbs are out, or not working like they should, then get them replaced or repaired. The same goes for your wiper blades. Fall is almost here, which means the wet weather is coming. So make sure your blades are in working order. You dont want your son or daughter to get caught in a bad rainstorm with bad wipers, or lights that dont work.

Under the hood last, but certainly not least, is under the hood. In fact, this is often the most difficult to check on your own, which is why having your car checked by an experienced technician is a smart idea. But here are some things you can look for on your own.

  • Check all your fluid levels, including transmission fluid, coolant, and of course, your oil. And dont forget your power steering fluid or your brake fluid. If you notice any leaks or the color is off, or you notice any unusual smells, then you should probably bring it in to get it checked out. If your fluids are low, but there are no signs of trouble, then make sure you top them off to the proper levels.
  • Another important thing to check is your battery. Look for any signs of corrosion or leaking acid. Additionally, if you have a voltmeter you can check the life of your battery. If your performance is low, consider buying a new battery.
  • Make sure your hoses & cables are all in good shape. If you find anything loose or worn out then tighten or replace it. If youre not sure how, then bring it in to our shop and well assess the problem and take care of it for you.
