Are Your Spark Plugs Due for a Change Vancouver Auto Repair
No matter what kind vehicle you drive, at some point its going to need some parts, unless you buy a new car every 5,000 10,000 miles. But who can afford to do that? Every part of your vehicle has a lifespan and some parts last longer than others. In fact, some parts last longer on one vehicle than the same part on another vehicle. For example, your spark plugs are going to need to be replaced, but it could be as early as 30,000 miles, while some plugs could last as long as 100,000 miles.
So, what about your spark plugs? Do you know the last time they were changed? Chances are if your car isnt having any issues then your spark plugs are fine. But if youve noticed anything unusual lately, then it could be your plugs. Here are some of the top signs your spark plugs could some new spark.
Difficulty Starting when you start your vehicle the starter turns the engine over so fuel and air can enter the cylinders. The starter then sends electricity through the spark plug wires to the plugs themselves. The plugs then create sparks in the cylinders, which ignites the fuel and air and starts the engine. If the plugs have lost the ability to create a spark, your engine is probably not going to start.
Idles Rough if your plugs are bad, your vehicle will likely idle roughly because the cylinder block isnt firing correctly. Because your vehicle isnt running on all cylinders, that rough idle will make your engine cut out, which causes your vehicle to shake.
Stalling or Misfiring sometimes your engine will still start when the plugs are bad, but you might still experience some misfiring and stalling. Spark plugs keep firing as the engine runs and it the cylinders continue receiving fuel and air, which creates continuous combustion. When plugs wear out your engine has difficulty produce combustion, which causes misfiring or installing.
Decreased Fuel Efficiency another issue caused by worn spark plugs, is a loss of fuel efficiency. This happens because the engine increases fuel consumption as it tries to produce power. This can cause the engine to surge, which means it burns extra fuel. That means more money out of your wallet for gas.
Lagging or Surging you might also experience some lagging from your vehicle or on the other end of the spectrum, some surging. This is caused by either too much, or too little, spark. If you notice a lag or a surge while your car, truck, crossover, van, or SUV is motion, it could be because your spark plugs are worn.
